GLOBAL VIEW by Monica Acquaviva The rise of women across Latin America The economic story of women in Latin America, and across the Western Hemisphere is one of profound transformation, marked by an unprecedented rise in both enterprise and impact. Women are no longer simply participants in the economy; they are architects of the economy, building value through business innovation, social entrepreneurship, and philanthropic leadership at levels never seen before. Across the region, data and emerging role models tell a powerful story of resilience, scale, and acceleration. Women are launching businesses at some of the highest rates globally, often driven by both necessity and opportunity. At the same time, they are reshaping philanthropic ecosystems, moving from traditional giving toward more strategic, impact-driven approaches that address systemic challenges in education, STEM, health, infrastructure and economic inclusion. This momentum is also reflected in leadership. Women are stepping into increasingly visible and influential roles across sectors (as founders, investors, policymakers, presidents, and First Ladies) …. bringing new perspectives to governance, collaboration, and long-term development. Their leadership is not only expanding representation but also redefining priorities, with a stronger emphasis on sustainability, equity, and inclusive growth. While structural barriers persist, including unequal access to capital, regulatory challenges, and cultural constraints, the trajectory is unmistakably positive. The convergence of entrepreneurship, philanthropy, and leadership is creating a multiplier effect, accelerating both economic growth and social impact and progress. This is more than an encouraging trend; it is a defining force in one of the most significant economic and social transformations of our time. The continued rise of women across Latin America and the Western Hemisphere signals not only greater inclusion, but a reimagining of how economies are built, how impact is scaled, and how leadership shapes the future.
