COVER STORY by Edie Fraser & Kay Unger Kay Unger Finding Your Purpose Dream big, act with bold resolve and collaborate to establish your legacy For more than 40 years since we first met, we have been friends and individually and collectively, we have focused on relationships, making an impact, and giving. We both dream big and act with bold resolve. Edie works to galvanize and accelerate programs with bold impact. Kay echoes that mission. Edie: Early in my professional career I followed President John Kennedy’s call, “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.” I spent five years working for the Peace Corps and then the U.S. poverty program, then onward with leadership on consumerism, diversity, gender (always); mentorship and sponsorship, and advocacy around STEM. Today I lead a movement for equal positions, pay and power for all business women with WBC and the amazing 75+ organizations, including Enterprising Women and the Enterprising Women Foundation. Kay: When I was eight years old, I got my first sewing machine; and as my parents slept, I took bedspreads and turned them into skirts, robes, and other items for relatives and friends. I followed my passion without knowing where it would lead. Designers were all geniuses to me. I wanted to create beautiful things and I then did. You, too, must dream big and create. I still not only dream big today, but I am thrilled as with Edie to be a bold change maker. My head and heart are entwined as I work with individuals and organizations to make an impact. Collaboration comes from the heart. It is spiritual, stemming from a strong desire to help the world become a better place for men and women. Edie: Collaboration is the only way we get from aspirational goals to impact because of the willingness to support one another as individuals and organizations, and uplift and elevate for others’ success. We celebrate results as business women and entrepreneurs. Work collaboratively with women as women must keep working together and turn relationships to advocacy for one another.
