TECHNOLOGY by LuzElena Rivers AI won’t replace you, but it will leave you behind When I founded Amera, the first nurse-led, Uber-style medical transportation service for outpatient surgeries, I didn’t have investors, a roadmap, or a safety net. I had vision, faith, and a belief that leadership means solving problems before someone else does. Today, one of the biggest problems leaders face isn’t technology, it’s hesitation. Everywhere I speak to universities, corporate events, and women’s leadership conferences, I challenge audiences with this truth: AI is not here to replace you. But leaders and companies who use AI will replace those who don’t. From immigrant to AI-driven CEO As an immigrant woman leading a multimillion-dollar healthcare company, I’ve learned that success doesn’t belong to the most resourced, it belongs to the most adaptable. Amera didn’t scale because we worked harder. It scaled because we worked smarter, with AI. Here’s how AI powers our daily operations: Real-time decisions, not monthly reports I don’t wait for spreadsheets or end-ofmonth summaries. AI gives me real-time metrics on revenue trends, facility volume, cancellations, and growth forecasts. Self-managing teams, not micromanaging leaders AI exposes delays and operational gaps before they become emergencies, helping teams self-correct and take ownership. More humanity, not less AI didn’t replace people. It replaced chaos, scheduling errors, paperwork, and burnout, so we could focus on care, innovation, and connection. What I teach women leaders One of my most requested keynotes is “Do Less, Lead More with Your AI-Driven Roadmap.” I teach this: ■ AI is not the expert. You are. ■ AI is the thought partner. You are the thought leader. ■ If AI isn’t working for you, it’s rarely the tool, it’s the approach. Three mindset shifts every leader needs: 1. AI isn’t coming for your job. It’s coming for your inefficiency. 2. AI won’t replace leaders. But leaders who use AI will replace those who don’t. 3. You don’t need to master every tool, you need to empower your team to use it strategically. Stop protecting your team from AI and prepare them for it. Women often tell me, “I don’t want my team to feel afraid of AI.” My answer? Fear comes from not understanding. Leadership removes fear by giving direction and purpose. That means: ■ Giving department leaders access and training ■ Teaching them to use AI for data and decisions, not just content creation ■ Rewarding innovation, not perfection ■ Showing how AI leads to promotions, raises, fewer mistakes, and less burnout Every department: finance, HR, dispatch, client relations, marketing, operations, should lead AI in their lane, not wait for the CEO’s permission. AI Is not a technology test. It’s a leadership test. This moment in history doesn’t require more meetings or policies. It requires leaders willing to go first, to learn the tool, use it, and teach it. When I speak on stages, I tell audiences: I am not successful because I had it all figured out. I am successful because I refused to stay the same. AI didn’t make Amera less human. It made us more human. It gave us clarity, removed stress, and gave us the one thing leaders never have enough of — time. So, I’ll leave you with this: AI won’t replace you. But leaders who use AI will replace those who don’t.
